It’s Good to Be the King in the Kickstarter Campaign Game King’s Orders

Recently I have had the pleasure of trying out a new game entitled King’s Orders, that is currently live on Kickstarter. This unique strategy game is being developed by Games Operators located in Warsaw, Poland. They are currently looking to obtain 10,000 Euro and are hoping to reach this goal and pursue their dreams.

King’s Orders is an interesting strategy game where you are the king, but unlike most strategy games where you control an army by moving them around a battlefield and try to eliminate your opponents directly you take a more quill to paper approach. You write letters to Stewarts, Generals, neutral and waring countries, etc. All this in attempts to instruct them, bribe them, and persuade them to push your agenda.

While playing King’s Orders it gave me Age of Empires vibes, though once I started playing it totally is way different in gameplay. I started by looking at the four campaigns it offers while listing to a very medieval catchy soundtrack. After picking one of the four campaigns I clicked through the menus and options that were given to me. Once I figured out how to select and carry out orders I began to see where the strategy really plays into this game.

Selecting various towns they show you the statistics of the towns main resource, current state of happiness, tax rate, military at hand, etc. You can correspond with the local Stewart or General and select various orders from a menu to instruct them. Perhaps you want to raise the taxes to contribute more to your pool to gain more for your growing military or you want to an update on the status of the area. You can write as much or as little from the pre-made written instructions you have at your royal disposal.

If you enjoy managing these aspects, then you may enjoy the style that this strategy game gives you. What I also found both satisfying and stressful is when other countries invaded your territories especially if there is more than one front. You must strategically write your generals and send them to the correct places with the correct number of military units to win. You can determine some of this before it even happens by sending spies to gather intel and hopefully, they do not get captured. This sounds and is a bit hectic, but you can pause time as you write letters and check responses and then start the time up again and different speeds to allow time to past as you see fit. This also works well if you are sending orders to a town to construct a barracks or something important.

Overall, Kings Orders is a game you can put a lot of thought into, and one letter can change the course of your history and legacy. If you like to manage and use strategy to win, you might consider backing and trying out this PC game. As Mel Brooks says in a few of his movies, just remember, “It’s good to be the King.”

What do you think of King’s Orders?  Would you contribute to a Kickstarter like this? Have you backed a Kickstarter campaign before? Let us know your thoughts.
